Tommy Jones Wins Geico Classic

Mar 24, 2008

HOPKINSVILLE, KY - Fans of Ebonite’s Tommy Jones got a real treat this weekend when "TJ" soared past the competition to win the GEICO Classic in West Babylon, NY.

Jones posted 269, 268 and then 257 in the finals to defeat Pete Weber and become the most recent bowler to cross the million-dollar mark in earnings.

"Tommy’s a mainstay on Tour with a huge fan following, " said Ed Gallagher, Ebonite brand manager. "It’s great to see him in the winner’s circle again.

"Crossing the million mark is a huge accomplishment and this is especially true in Tommy’s case because of the rate at which he reached the goal and at a such a young age. He’s really just getting started."

Jones, a Simpsonville, SC resident, exploded onto the Tour in his rookie season and quickly amassed 10 titles in just three seasons, including two Majors. This win marks Jones’ 12th career title since joining the Tour in 2000 and his second title this season. He currently has a televised appearances average of 237.4 and used the Ebonite Smash Time Pearl and Gamebreaker balls this weekend.

The Smash Time Pearl This was drilled with the pin 5 inches from his PAP and below his fingers in order to allow the ball to be long down the lane, yet smooth off of the pattern. The Gamebreaker was drilled with the pin at 6 1/2 inches from his PAP to allow the ball to be long down lane, but also provide a smoother motion down lane versus the Smash Time Pearl.
