Reigning Player of the Year Wins Ace Hardware Championship with Smash Time Pearl, Overtime Balls
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - Reigning Player of Year and Ebonite staff member, Tommy Jones, posted his ninth PBA career title this weekend at the 2006 Ace Hardware Championship using Ebonite’s Smash Time Pearl and Overtime balls.
Knocking off his friend and roommate on Tour, Wes Malott, 222-221, for the $25,000 check, Jones is looking to continue this winning streak into this week in Baltimore.
“The cards were stacked in my favor this week,” said Jones. “I had the right equipment for the lane conditions so I felt confident that I could get the job done.”
Jones, a Simpsonsville, S.C. resident, won four titles in each of the last two seasons after being chosen Rookie of the Year in 2001-2002. On his way to the finals, Jones defeated Walter Ray Williams, Jr., 226-216, giving Jones his first-ever win on TV against the Tour’s all-time title holder.*
