EBONITE MISSION & MAGIC ACTION ARE THE BALLS OF CHOICE IN LUMBER LIQUIDATORS U.S. OPEN
Mar 01, 2010
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Tommy Jones and Jason Couch relied on Ebonite’s Mission and Magic Action balls to traverse the challenging lane condition at this year’s 67th Lumber Liquidators U.S. Open at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis, and those premium Ebonite bowling balls also carried the two stars to the PBA’s most prestigious title.
Jones, who finished third in his second TV appearance of the season, opened the ESPN stepladder finals on Feb. 28 with a 245-192 victory over fourth-place finisher Couch.
Considered to be the most challenging lane conditions that players face all season on the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour, the U.S. Open prompted both players to use the Mission and Magic Action to attack an event with dramatic lane condition transitions.
“I used the Mission and Magic Action for most of the tournament,” said Jones, the 2005-06 PBA Tour Player of the Year and 12-time Tour titlist. “For me, they were the best choices to deal with the transitions we face in a demanding event like the U.S. Open.
“In the first game of the TV finals I had a good look with the Mission in my match against Jason because it enabled me to get a quicker pick up and roll on the tighter lane condition. In the second match (against eventual winner Bill O’Neill), I just wasn’t able to adjust quick enough because the conditions changed very quickly.”
Couch, a 15-time Tour titlist, made his second TV appearance of the season.
“I usually use a lot of Ebonite equipment to combat changing conditions during the week, but I was most comfortable using the Mission for the tighter conditions I faced during qualifying and match play in the U.S. Open,” Couch said. “I went to the Magic Action after the lanes opened up a little bit.
“I stuck with the Mission and Magic Action for the first TV match, but I didn’t expect Tommy would throw a 240 game at me on that condition.”
The Ebonite Mission – the same ball Kelly Kulick used in her historic PBA Tournament of Champions victory on January 24 – continues to be the hottest ball on tour.
