DOYLE, DUNN PACE TEEN MASTERS GRAND CHAMPIONSHIPS FINALISTS

Doyle, a Junior Team USA member who became the youngest “casher” in U.S. Open history earlier this year at age 14, won 13 of his 16 matches and posted a 34-game total of 7,303 pins, including match play bonus pins, to lead qualifying in the High School Boys division of the Teen Masters at Freeway Lanes in suburban Cleveland.

The other four boys who will advance to the Grand Championship finals along with Doyle are Jacob Ettinger, Lafaytee, Colo.; Greg Young, Viera, Fla., and Aaron Yuratovich, Olathe, Kan.

Dunn, two years removed from her 14-Under Teen Masters age group title in Reno, Nev., posted a 10-6 match play record and knocked down a total of 6,745 pins to lead the High School Girls qualifiers. Haley Rubin of Brandon, S.D., was second, 14 pins behind. Also advancing to the Grand Championships will be
Jessica Davies, Cape Coral, Fla., and Melanie Hannon, Cheektowaga, N.Y. Hannon claimed the final spot in the Grand Championships by 13 pins over defending Teen Masters High School Girls division champion Rachel Vaughn of Port St. Lucie, Fla.

The Teen Masters Grand Championships will be webcast live on PBA.com’s Xtra Frame, a subscription-based on-line video streaming service, Aug. 6-8. To enroll as an Xtra Frame subscriber, visit pba.com and click on the Xtra Frame logo.

Also on Thursday, David Daniels of Sebring, Fla., defeated Tyler Zogg of Chesapeake, Va., 143-172, 199-186, 212-203, to win the best-of-three-game championship match in the Boys 14-Under division. Adel Wahner of Las Cruces, N.Y., won the Girls 14-Under title, defeating Bailey Palmer of Ottumwa, Iowa, 193-158, 220-159.

The Teen Masters, originated by Killer “B” Promotions founder Gary Beck, is a unique youth tournament, testing player skills on a combination of long- and short-oiled lane conditions as well as bowling equipment limitations which require players to make adjustments in their techniques rather than relying on ball technology. Each competitor will be allowed to use two Ebonite bowling balls. More than 170 youth bowlers will compete for more than $100,000 in scholarship money.
