Newly minted Ebonite Staff member Jesse Buss has been quite busy over the past few months.

The 27-year-old recently moved to Rockford, IL to open a pro shop in Don Carter Lanes. And he was recently selected to lead the men’s and women’s bowling teams in a new program at Highland Community College.

But on June 27th, Buss showed that he still can throw the bowling ball by posting an 846 series, which was part of a 1,125 four-game set. Using the Ebonite Innovate ball, the right-hander rolled games of 279, 289, 278, and 279 in the DW Wednesday Night Scratch Singles Match Play League at Don Carter Lanes.

“I really wasn’t thinking about it much along the way,” said Buss, who previously bowled full-time on the Professional Bowlers Association Tour. “It’s a four-game match play league, so you bowl a different opponent each game on a different pair of lanes. It was easy to just forget the last game, and focus on winning my current match.”

The Innovate’s Verve core and HTR 3.0 Pearl coverstock proves to be just the response bowlers need on light to medium oil conditions. Buss, who had just drilled the Innovate, couldn’t help but notice the big scores he produced rolling the Innovate.

“After I finished the third game, I thought to myself, ‘That’s my highest series ever,’” he said. “Going into the last game, I was just on cruise control.”

Buss was thinking a 300 game would be the nice way to finish off his career high series. After starting the match with the first eight strikes, Buss left a solid 9 pin to end his string. He says the Innovate cleared the front part of the lane with ease, while still providing him with a great down lane reaction.

“The Innovate has a very smooth and predictable motion,” said Buss. “It clears the front part of the lane when other equipment is reading too early.”

Although Buss hasn’t had the Innovate very long, he said he got comfortable with the ball very quickly.

“It doesn’t really take that long to know whether you are going to like a ball,” he said. “After throwing it a few games you get a sense of whether the ball is going to be pretty versatile or more of a ball used only on a particular lane pattern. And the Innovate is a versatile ball.”

Along with coaching and instruction at Cliff Barnes Pro Shop, Buss hopes to develop junior and collegiate bowling programs in the Northern Illinois area. But he hasn’t given up on his own bowling goals.

“I hope to win a few more regional titles along the way and put myself in position to win a national title. And you can bet that I drill another Innovate. I’m proud to be an Ebonite Staffer and I Bowl to Win.”
